Haven, a history
After the initial landing in Charleston, a small group of settlers banded together over discontent in the coastal town and made a westward push. The 100 settlers found a safe place from the horrific storms that were wracking the Eastern Coast. The lush valley they woke to was everything they had been searching for, a safe haven. Throughout the journey, one man had stepped up, becoming their leader. Marshall Haven took the role seriously, and with the help of Wallace McAllister and Jacob Kaufman, the first building was erected -- A church, which was large enough to house the settlers, and run by Pastor Ellias Griffin and his aids. Soon after, their little holding became a town, and on May 11, 1820 the town of Haven, South Carolina was born.
